In den letzten Jahren ist es etwas stiller geworden um das kanadische Duo Jeremy Greenspan und Matt Didemus aka Junior Boys, dem Projekt, das schon seit Jahren die Brücke zwischen R&B, Techno und Popmusik schlägt. Doch damit ist demnächst erstmal wieder Schluss, denn nachdem Jeremy zuletzt in seinem Studio in Hamilton, Ontario, dem Album von Jessy Lanza und diversen Caribou Hits den letzten Schliff verpasste, steht dieser Tage erstmal wieder das Herzensprojekt des Duos im Mittelpunkt. ‘Big Black Coat‘ heißt das neue Album, das am 5. Februar via City Slang erscheint und so üppig und unmittelbar wie lange kein Album der Junior Boys sein soll, ohne nicht weiterhin Elemente aus Industrial-Pop, Techno und Dubstep zu beinhalten. Jeremy kommentiert passend dazu den Titeltrack: “It’s a techno track that got turned into a song. This has been the great experience of doing the jiaolong releases. It let me get back to not worrying about songwriting, and just get into production. It still retains much of its techno skeleton. The percussion to me sounded like the fabric of a big winter coat. I also bought a huge winter coat the day I wrote this, hence the name and the lyrics. I wanted the album to capture the feel of my nowheresville post-industrial city in the winter. I find it inspiring.”
