(Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Holy Mountain)
Noel is back: Der Ältere der Gallaghers folgt nun auf Liam und veröffentlicht sein drittes Soloalbum Who Built the Moon? mit seiner Band High Flying Birds. Der einstige Britpop-Titan hat nun keine Lust mehr auf dergleichen und experimentiert mit Psychedelic, Disco und Soul. Und das klingt äußerst erfrischend.
Wer hätte das gedacht? Noel Gallagher, der für alle Oasis-Hits verantwortlich war und mit seinem Debüt von 2011 eine sehr erfolgreiche Solokarriere startete, hat keinen Bock mehr auf Britpop. Jetzt gibt’s Synthesizer-Beats, afrikanische Rhythmen und psychedelische Vibes. Der Opener Fort Knox ist fast rein instrumental und hat massiv pulsierende Beats. Der Track Holy Mountain ist noch überraschender. Glam Rock meets Boogie. “She danced, she danced, right into my hands, Oh now pretty baby c’mon”, heißt es hier. Untypisch direkt für Gallagher. Die neue Richtung ist vor allem Produzent David Holmes zu verdanken, der Noel dazu drängte, seine Komfortzone zu verlassen. Anders als bei seinem Bruder geht es auf dem Album nicht mehr rau und rockig zu, sondern spielerisch und facettenreich. It’s a Beautiful World erinnert etwas an Falling Down vom letzten Oasis-Album. Atmosphärischer Psychedlic-Pop, auf dem Noel positiv von einer schönen Welt singt. Besonders witzig hier ist das französische Interlude, das von einer Frau gesprochen wird.
Das Tempo wird noch mal auf She Taught Me How To Fly angezogen mit schönem Pop-Pathos. Auch Black & White Sunshine ist alles andere als rau und düster, sondern leichtfüßig. “Here in the jungle, I can’t get a break for love nor money. The weight of the world, Is dragging me down down down”, singt Noel.
Man muss sich anfangs kurz an den neuen Sound der Platte gewöhnen, doch schnell erscheint eigentlich alles sehr natürlich. Für Noel Gallagher war es wohl mal Zeit, nach über 15 Jahren Oasis und seinen zwei Soloalbum etwas anderes zu wagen. Dafür haben wir ja die Platte von Liam, die ein bisschen in Nostalgie schwingt. Noel blickt eben nach vorn.
