Ein aufregendes Comeback legen die Herren von Efterklang gerade vor. Denn etwa sieben Jahre nach der letzten Album-Veröffentlichung Piramida und der Ankündigung nach der letzten Show in ihrer Heimatstadt Sønderborg erstmal eine Pause von der Band einlegen zu wollen, kündigt das dänische Trio heute ihr fünftes Studioalbum Altid Sammen für den 20. September via 4AD an! Sänger Casper Clausen erinnert sich daran: “We needed a break from the album and touring routine, and we needed a break from Efterklang. After the Sønderborg show, things felt very exciting – and a bit scary too. We could think freely, and move in new directions again, just focusing on the things that excited the 3 of us.”
Angestoßen durch eine Kollaboration mit dem belgischen Ensemble B.O.X., die aktuelle Musik mit barocken Instrumenten orchestriert, zog es Clausen, Mads Brauer und Rasmus Stolberg zurück ins Studio, wo sich die Band verschanzte. Clausen selbst wagte dabei den Schritt auf dem ganzen Album in seiner dänischen Muttersprache zu singen. Thematisch beschreibt er das Album wie folgt: “Altid Sammen’s songs are about belief and togetherness…Not in a religious way – none of us are believers of a defined religion. The words are searching for meaning in intimate relationships, in nature, in death and eternity. The bonds we create; to gather, hold hands, sing or share a moment together. We’re all connected, across nations, age, sex and gender. We come together with all of our backgrounds, and we move apart in all sorts of directions, always together.”
Stolberg fügt zur Entstehung zum Video der erste Single Vi er uendelig (“Wir sind unendlich”) hinzu: „When we mixed the album in the Basque Country we by chance stumbled upon a video clip of Johnny Hallyday singing Le Penitentier and we were completely mesmerized by the visuals and the feel of it. We felt a connection to our song and without fully understanding why we immediately had the idea and urge to re-record the video as an homage. It felt like a simple idea, but in fact it was much more difficult than we had expected. We still haven’t been able to find out who did the original video, but we would like to express our deepest respect and gratitude for creating such an inspiring clip.“
