Letztes Jahr schon war für uns die Schwedin Thea Gustafsson, die unter ihrem musikalischen Alter Ego Becky And The Birds mit ihrer Debüt-EP und einer angenehm zeitgeistigen R’n’B-/Elektro-Produktion aufwartete, ein Newcomer-Tipp und landete unter unseren Bands To Watch 2019. Zwar hat es etwas länger gedauert, aber nun nimmt die Newcomerin wieder ordentlich Fahrt auf, war sie zuletzt doch schon als Support auf der Jadu Heart-Tour dabei und veröffentlicht nun heute auch endlich neue Musik via 4AD. Wondering ist die neue Single der Schwedin, die mit 7 Jahren begann Violine zu lernen und daraufhin in Orchestern spielte, um später nach einem Umzug nach Stockholm dort in der Musikschule Musikmakama Pop-Musik für sich zu entdecken. Diese mischt sie nun mit Einflüssen von Jazz und Soul. Über den Song selbst weiß die Newcomerin, die den Song selbst geschrieben und produziert hat, zu berichten: “I wrote this song after I lost my grandmother, which was the first time that I experienced the death of a loved one. My grandmother was my best friend and such a light in my life, so losing her was really, really difficult for me. I didn’t know how to deal with the complete emptiness and confusion that I felt. That’s when I wrote this song, I just felt like I had to find different ways of coping, and thinking about the good times and the beautiful memories instead of what could’ve been. That’s why I’m hoping that this song will reach anyone who’s experienced loss of a loved one. We’ve gotta come together and focus on the good and the beautiful marks that they’ve left in our lives and hearts, cause they will never be taken from us.”
