Das kanadische Elektronik-Duo Purity Ring hat sein drittes Album Womb nach fünf Jahren Pause veröffentlicht. Wieder besticht die Platte mit einem ästhetischen Mix aus transzendentalem Synthiepop und tiefen Beats.

Dieses Mal wurde die neue Platte in Eigenregie von Megan James und Corin Roddick produziert und aufgenommen. Das herausstechende Thema des Albums ist die Suche nach Trost und Ruhe in einer Welt, wo man mal schnell den Boden unter den Füßen verlieren kann. So aktuell wie eh und je. “Peace comes at dawn, but yours comes at night, riding your bicycle, into the light”, heißt es auf dem schummrigen Peacefall. Insgesamt setzt das Album mehr noch auf verzerrte Beats mit hymnischen Melodien und weniger auf Hip Hop. Megan James Stimme ist oft gepitched und verzerrt, was natürlich sehr gut zu der Stimmung der Platte passt. Pink Lightning ist ein frickeliges Synthpop-Stück mit schönen Lyrics. “Heavy are the winds from the east they have come to see, fallen like hundred year old trees missed your body”, heißt es hier.

Wie auch auf den zwei Vorwerken gibt sich das Duo traumhaft und geheimnisvoll, sogar noch etwas düsterer. Sinew ist ein schön smoother Track, der einen kurz in Trance abschweifen lässt. Kein Wunder, dass Purity Ring seit ihrem Debüt als Vertreter des Witch House gelten. Mystisch und zauberhaft. Der Abschlusstrack und erste Single der Platte Stardew ist ein grooviger Uptempo-Song für den Midnight-Dancefloor. “Drive me like we daydream, to the edge of where you start”, singt James im Refrain. Wirklich dreamy.
