Für die britisch-jamaikanische Sängerin Celeste geht es seit Wochen und Monaten nur aufwärts, gen Pop-Olymp. Schon jetzt kann man der Sängerin, mit der gefühlvollen wie kräftigen Stimme, die ihr schnell Vergleiche zu Amy Winehouse oder Adele einbrachten, bescheinigen, dass 2020 ihr Durchbruchsjahr ist. Denn davon zeugen alleine schon der Gewinn des BBC Sound of 2020, sowie des BRIT Awards in der Newcomer-Kategorie Rising Star – aber ebenso Auftritte im Vorprogramm von Michael Kiwanuka oder in unzähligen TV Shows. Und das obwohl ihr eigentlich für den Herbst geplantes Debütalbum Pandemie-bedingt auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben wurde. Trotzdem sorgt die Sängerin immer wieder für spannende News – so auch heute!
Denn für den neuen, mit Hochspannung erwarteten Netflix-Film The Trail of the Chicago 7 von Aaron Sorkin (Molly’s Game, The Social Network) hat Celeste an drei Songs mitgearbeitet und könnte damit laut Variety gute Chancen im Rennen um einen Oscar für den besten Filmsong haben! Bevor der Film mit Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Keaton, Joseph Gordon-Levitt und Jeremy Strong ab 16. Oktober exklusiv auf Netflix weltweit im Streaming zu sehen ist, gibt es mit Hear My Voice schon mal die erste Celeste-Single aus dem Soundtrack, der am 20. November auf CD erscheinen soll und vom Golden Globe-nominierten Komponisten Daniel Pemberton (Yesterday, U.N.C.L.E.) produziert wurde!
Celeste sagt über ihr Mitwirken am Soundtrack und den Song: “I am so grateful to be part of such an important and timely film. Daniel Pemberton and I wanted to create a song that would be as meaningful, relevant and powerful as Aaron Sorkin’s film. He’s a true visionary and it really is an honor to contribute to this story.”
Der Film beruhend auf wahren Begebenheiten und handelt von einer friedlichen Demo, die in eine gewaltsame Konfrontation mit der Polizei ausartet. Was folgte, war einer der berüchtigtsten Prozesse der Justizgeschichte. Daniel Pemberton sagt über die Arbeiten am Soundtrack und die Idee zu Hear My Voice: “One of the first things Aaron Sorkin talked to me about was his vision for a song that could end the film, that could leave us with a sense of hope and possibility, of light beyond the darkness. I wanted to write something that captured the ideals of protest, that every person has a voice and a dream for the world and that those voices deserve to be heard. Hear My Voice was that idea….I knew straight away I wanted to collaborate with Celeste, as her voice is one of the most magical things I have heard in recent times. Her voice soars on the track, and is an expression of freedom, defiance, and hope. Like anyone who makes art or desires change, we all want people to hear our voice. I am incredibly proud that together, we’ve made a song with a strong, powerful and simple message at its heart that feels as relevant to now, as it does to the events in Chicago in 1969, and I’m very excited for the rest of the world to hear it“
