Clap Your Hands Say Yeah kündigen heute ihr neues Album New Fragility für den 29. Januar 2021 an und veröffentlichen kurzerhand einfach zwei tolle Singles! „These songs are politically motivated, which is unusual for me”, sagt Alec Ounsworth über Hesitating Nation und Thousand Oaks. „The only other politically motivated song I’ve written is Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood.” Dieser Titel trug dazu bei, ihr bahnbrechendes selbstbetiteltes Debüt im Jahr 2005 zu lancieren. Und jetzt, nach 15 Jahren und acht weiteren Platten, sah sich Ounsworth gezwungen, sich erneut mit der Politik auseinanderzusetzen, und die Ereignisse in den USA zeigen, wie ernst er die Lage einschätzt.

„Hesitating Nation is a song meant to convey my sense of disappointment and alienation with the rewarded mentality of getting ahead at all costs, inevitably to the detriment of those who didn’t sign up to be part of the experiment”, sagt Ounsworth und beschreibt die zweite Single Thousand Oaks so: „In 2018, there was a shooting in Thousand Oaks, CA which killed 13 people. This song has to do with the impotence of the American government in the face of such tragedies.”
