Der schottische Newcomer Joesef gehört zu den aktuell heißesten Eisen was neue spannende Stimmen im Pop-Umfeld angeht, brachten ihm doch seine zwei bisher veröffentlichten EPs allumfassende Lobes-Hymnen, große Fan-Scharen und allgemein große Aufmerksamkeit ein. Mit Comedown erscheint nun der Closer der letzten EP Does It Make You Feel Good? und der Song zeigt noch mal, warum dieser junge Musiker für so viel Aufsehen gesorgt hat! Mit großer Geste trifft hier die zerstörerische Schönheit seiner Musik auf großes Gefühlschaos und eine extra Portion Liebeskummer: “It’s about admitting defeat in a break up, while remembering the reasons you loved someone in the first place”, sagt Joesef.

Inspiriert von wiederkehrenden Träumen, die Joesef im letzten Jahr hatte, manifestiert das Video eine wörtliche Interpretation einer Trennung: “I’d been having dreams about crashing and being in an accident”, erzählt Joesef, “so I thought it would be cool to offset the gentle nature of the tune with a visual that was a bit graphic”. In dem Video sieht man Joesef blutig und geprellt nach dem Crash; die Kamera zoomt auf sein leeres und müdes Gesicht. Es ist beunruhigend, aber es porträtiert visuell die Stille der Niederlage, über die Joesef singt. “It turned out exactly how I pictured it”, sagt der Künstler.

Nach wie vor bleibt Joesef bewusst DIY und produziert seine gesamte Musik in seiner Wohnung in Glasgows Arbeiterviertel East End. Über seine aktuelle EP sagt er: “This EP draws a line under a relationship that i’ve written about in Play Me Something Nice, if that EP felt more hopeful, this is the end game. The bitterness, and the lies that stem from fading love, to the aftermath of dealing with loss and regret, and finally taking responsibility for my own actions. I don’t really give much away ever, so it will always make me feel uncomfortable sharing such personal aspects of my life, but maybe if it can help me work some shit out, it could help somebody else too.”
