2017 erschien das Cousin-Duo The Blaze urplötzlich auf der musikalischen Bildfläche um spätestens ein Jahr darauf Kritiker und Fans mit ihrem Debütalbum Dancehall im Sturm zu erobern! Seitdem wartet man auf einen Nachfolger – und den gibt es nun seit heute zumindest im Solo-Format von einer Hälfte des Projekts! Denn Guillaume Alric hat als Enfant Sauvage sein Solo-Album Petrichor über das Pariser Label Animal63 veröffentlicht. Als The Blaze nach all den Erfolgen und den Touren zu einer Pause kam, sah sich Alric im Keller des Büros seines Managements alte Fotos an, die er als Teenager in Clamecy gemacht hatte. „Die Fotografie gab mir viel Freiheit, denn es war die Zeit vor dem Internet“, erklärt Alric, „wir hatten noch keine sozialen Medien und keine digitale Technologie. So war das Spielen in der Natur, das Musikmachen und das Rauchen alles, was wir zur Unterhaltung hatten. Das war unsere Freiheit – eine Art Romantik.“ Alric empfand die Bilder und die Idee, zu seinen Wurzeln zurückzukehren, als sehr erdend und aufbauend. Als er nach Clamecy zurückkehrte, grub er tief in seine persönlichen Erfahrungen und die inspirierende Umgebung ein, um sowohl die Musik als auch die visuellen Eindrücke zu gestalten, die er sich vorgenommen hatte.
„Für mich hat dieses Projekt eine sehr persönliche und intime Inspiration“, erklärt Alric. „Das ist etwas, was ich mit The Blaze nicht machen konnte, weil ich mit The Blaze eine universellere Geschichte machen wollte… Es geht auch um andere Menschen. The Blaze hat etwas Urbaneres, Großstädtischeres an sich. Hier spreche ich über Menschen auf dem Land, eine intimere Erfahrung. Was die Musik angeht, habe ich versucht, weniger elektronisch zu klingen. Weil es eine Geschichte über das Land ist, das für mich so organisch ist, wollte ich, dass auch die Musik organischer klingt.“ Das Ergebnis dieser Bemühungen ist Enfant Sauvage und Petrichor, ein wunderschönes, abwechslungsreiches Album mit zukunftsweisender Musik, das als bezaubernder Liebesbrief an Clamecy und als Zeugnis des Teenagers dient, der Alric einst war. Für uns hat er ein Track by Track zum Album geschrieben!
58500 is the postcode of Clamecy, the town I come from. It was important to me that the first track on the album had this name, to go straight to my place of inspiration.
Silent Love tells the story of a specific moment I experienced. The storm was coming and, because I was too shy, I couldn’t admit my love for a girl. We were both walking in nature, it was the perfect moment. Finally the rain fell, I never told her about this feeling, and my love remained hidden.
A Misty Day is for someone I lost. Someone who was close to me. If music can cross death, I wish he could hear it where he is today.
Louve is a combination of the name Lou and Love. I won’t say more about it because behind it is my personal life.
Fame and Roses is a song about success, which is like a rose whose petals are soft, but whose thorns can be sharp.
It’s All over is just an interlude, to breathe a little before the rest of the album.
Tale’s Complete is about a lost friendship but still present, a person who has marked my life even if we don’t see each other anymore, and even if we know it, we still love each other.
Erotic Friendship is that feeling that can arise between two friends, an erotic tension that never goes any further but is nevertheless there, like a dizzying desire.
Time To Fall is about that moment when you have to take your courage in both hands to give yourself a chance to fall in love. To trust again to heal the wounds of the soul.
Force Field is about that force that will always bring me back to the city I came from. The inexplicable magnetism of the roots that forged us.
Solitude is a contemplation. I wanted to end this album on this instrumental track, as a last look at the landscapes of my youth, of my inner strength.
