Willkommen auf unserem Newcomer-Radar, Allison Ponthier! Die 26-jährige Songwriterin veröffentlicht mit ihrer am 8. Juli erscheinenden Debüt-EP Faking My Own Death ihre erste klangliche Standort-Bestimmung und öffnet dieses spannende Kapitel ihrer noch ganz jungen Karriere mit der Single Autopilot, über die sie sagt: “Autopilot originally started out as a song about my phobia of driving. I’m 26 years old and I’ve had my permit three times, but ultimately the responsibility of driving has always terrified me”, so Allison Ponthier. “While it started out as a song about something silly, it ended up being an exercise to write about my weaknesses. I don’t like to tell people how to interpret my songs, but I think Autopilot can take on a double meaning about trying to break through the feeling of going through the motions.”

Aufgewachsen im Lone Star State Texas, träumte Ponthier schon immer davon, nach New York City abzuhauen. Als sie es dann mit 20 nach Brooklyn geschafft hat, war sie im Epizentrum des East Coast Hipstertums angekommen. Die dazugehörige innere Reise hat sie zu einigen Songs auf Faking My Own Death inspiriert – mit einem Sound, der gleichzeitig zeitlos und innovativ klingt – ohne ihre Affinität für Indie-Folk und Alternative-Rock oder auch ihre Country-Roots zu verleugnen.

Wieviel Humor bei ihr zuweilen zwischen all den inneren Konflikten schlummert, zeigt sich auch im Video zu Autopilot, das von Jared Asher im Retro-Style eine ungewöhnliche Liebesgeschichte in den Mittelpunkt setzt. Vom ersten Treffen, romantischen Dates bis hin zu Hochzeit und einem darauf folgenden Honeymoon… “The new project is different from my last in a few ways. Sonically, I think the highs are higher and the intimate lows are more intimate”, erklärt die Sängerin weiter. “I think Faking My Own Death was very intimate and singer-songwriter, but this time I challenged myself to maintain telling unique and heartfelt stories through song while giving it a new burst of energy and experimenting with different production styles.”
