Dekel begann im September 2023 mit den Arbeiten an ihrem heute erscheinendem dritten Album Starlings, doch die Ereignisse vom 7. Oktober und die unvorstellbaren Folgen legten alles auf Eis. “Ich konnte fast einen Monat lang keine Musik hören. Langsam fing ich an, nur noch Instrumentalmusik zu hören und nur noch Lieder auf Hebräisch. Danach fing ich langsam an, Musik in anderen Sprachen zu hören, aber ganz leise und nur sanfte Lieder. Alles andere war zu intensiv und fühlte sich flach an, und ich konnte die Harmonie darin nicht spüren.” Als sie etwa einen Monat später zur Arbeit an dem Album zurückkehrte, sagte Dekel, sie “hatte das Gefühl, etwas völlig Neues zu beginnen. Ich habe den gesamten Ansatz und die DNA des Projekts verändert. Ich versuche immer, eine akkurate musikalische Handschrift zu kreieren, ich versuche, einen klaren Fokus zu haben, es bedeutet mir sehr viel, auf diese Weise zu arbeiten und Musik zu präsentieren. Bei diesem Album habe ich das Gefühl, dass es mir gelungen ist, das auf eine sehr tiefe Art und Weise durch die Texte, die Melodien und die allgemeine Essenz zu erreichen.”
Das Ergebnis ist ein Album mit tiefen philosophischen Gedanken, mit einer Fülle von osteuropäischer Lebendigkeit, aber auch einer reichen, samtigen Weichheit, die alle auf die Umgebung zurückzuführen sind, in der es entstanden ist. Bei Starlings arbeitet Dekel wieder mit dem Grammy– und Mercury-Preisträger Jonathan Quarmby zusammen, um einen akustischeren und organischeren Sound zu schaffen, dessen üppige Erdigkeit auf Dekels tiefe Liebe zur Natur und zu Tieren zurückzuführen ist. “Es ist mein natürlicher Lebensraum und ich versuche, bei allem, was ich tue, eine Verbindung zur Natur herzustellen”, erklärt sie. A love song for September. A month where we usually celebrate the new Hebrew year, the air gets a bit chillier and the first rain of the season starts. It’s one of my favourite times of the year.

Every season brings a new frequency and quality that pushes nature to move forward in a sacred magical ritual. It breaks hard but also holds within it the seed of hope and continuity. This is how we thrive and evolve, and it is what keeps us sane and safe. Over and over again.

How do you break superstition, a false belief system or old fashioned beliefs? Through humour, animation and tenderness.
4. So Much Logic
When I can’t find logic in anything, I walk barefoot in the fields and dip in the sea. I understand that logical thinking is just a fragment of something much bigger and more holistic than anything else. I understand that what we don’t understand or see doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, it just means we don’t understand and see.
5. Frog Prince
I took inspiration from an Israeli song where a boy asks his dad for a bedtime story, a fairy tale to make him feel less afraid of the darkness in the room. I mixed it with other fairy tales, painted it in the colours of the ocean, and offered the opportunity to understand that we can repair everything within ourselves. Everything is a reflection of us. Sometimes I find it comforting.

To all the women in my life.
This song is for you!
7. I know I will
A song that describes Shabbat dinner, kiddush, a family sitting together. It holds a special meaning for me. It reminds me again and again of my roots.
8. Meet Me Halfway
This song talks about meeting redemption only halfway. There’s no other way.
9. My Song
Everyone has a song within themselves.
It’s like the sun shining through your heart.
It’s like having your own code, but it’s more attractive to refer to it as a song. There are times when it may not feel enough, but it is the thing you must have in order to overcome.
10. Borrowed From The Soul
It talks about how everything is fragile and borrowed from divinity. We should be in awe and not take anything or anyone for granted; We should be respectful and deserving
